Found Steve Dawes through Which? Trusted Trader when he came out to sort out a wrongly wired socket. Steve gave a guide price for the cost of the swap to LEDs, including the time it would take. Work carried out within the predicted time frame and charged at an hourly rate plus materials. Professional, punctual, polite, well-organised, and knowledgeable about the task. Explained what he planned to do and checked regularly that I was happy with progress and had the information I needed about new fittings. Cleaned up as he went along.

Steve undertook extensive electrical work when we moved house. The house needed new fuse boards, new sockets, new lights in the bathroom, garage rewired, fire/smoke alarms fitted. When we had a kitchen fitted, Steve came back and did the wiring. He explained what needed to be done and why. We are very happy with the work completed and feel a lot safer knowing that an expert has tested everything. He is very professional and efficient. I can highly recommend Steve.

Steve replaced switches to fused spur timer type to operate our towel rail heaters in bathrooms. Also checked and advised on bathroom extractor fans. Steve was courteous, thorough and tidy. Would highly recommend.

Steve responded promptly with optional dates, arrived on time, diagnosed the situation and problem quickly, confirmed the solution and did the work. All done simply and without any issues, his work was neat and tidy (including the wirework which was out of site), putting everything back. He gave me the option as to whether to gold plate or do the minimum. He was a pleasure to do business with - just wish there were more of him in other trades also!

I contacted Steve in a bit of a panic after insulation work in my loft ended with me finding that evening that I had no lights at the front of the bungalow nor any power to my central heating. I found SMD on Which? Trusted Traders first thing the next morning. Fortunately Steve was prepared to drop everything and come over straightaway - much to my relief. After a quick check Steve identified that a RCD has tripped. He quickly found that the front lights were the problem area. A visit to the loft and, after a methodical check that took a while, he eventually found a rodent-chewed cable that had obviously finally short-circuited during the work. Steve quickly replaced the cable and power was restored - much to my delight. I now have a rodent-gnawed strip of cable as a memento, At all times Steve kept me informed on what he was doing and why, and reassured me that he would solve the problem. I cannot recommend Steve too highly - his friendly service would be hard to beat, and all at a very reasonable cost.

The electrics in the house have tripped with no pattern on a number of times since August 2022. Steve undertook a forensic investigation into the potential electronical fault, identified issues, provided practical recommendations to address them and addressed them at a reasonable cost in a very short timescales, working around our availability. At the end of the investigation Steve also provided an electrical certificate and circuit chart for future use. Steve kept to scheduled and within the budget agreed. Steve is very professional and personable, would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an electrician.

Work carried out for me in my new house by Steve Daws including: Replace old consumer unit; upgrade old lighting fixtures in garage, outside area and roof ensuring safety; all new sockets and ceiling pendants; upgrade spot light fittings in kitchen and bathroom; upgrade central heating thermostat; timer on heated towel rail; issued Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulation Certificate of Compliance. Steve carried out work in my parent's bungalow quickly and efficiently.
