This company installed my central heating system and a new boiler in 2012 and have serviced it ever since. They have always been efficient, reliable and a pleasure to welcome into my house. On a couple of semi emergency callouts they were able to respond quickly which is a great comfort to me. Heat exchanger failed on our 13-yer old boiler and so we were without hot water and heating. Within two days of diagnosing the problem, Kevin had stripped out the old and fitted a new boiler. Brilliant!

Our boiler developed a problem which meant it wasn’t switching on and because it's a combi boiler we had no heating or hot water. I phoned S&C and told them the two fault codes. I was told the electrodes needed replacing and they would order them. The electrodes arrived a few days later and the engineer installed them. The boiler came on and he left, and 30 minutes later it stopped working again. I phoned S&C who washed their hands of the problem and advised me to contact the boilers manufacturer (Vaillant). A Vaillant engineer came out a few days later. He checked the fault codes, stored in memory on the boiler, and quickly diagnosed the problem as a faulty gas valve. The gas valve was changed and the boiler has worked perfectly ever since. Subsequently, we received an invoice from S&C for £102. I emailed them and suggested that as they had not fixed the boiler they should consider giving us a discount. This they refused to do. They deny I told them both fault codes over the phone. I know I told them both codes but I can’t prove it. Even so, the two fault codes were displayed on the boilers screen and they are stored in memory and can easily be accessed by a competent engineer. The S&C engineer who attended failed to diagnose the problem. He just wanted to change the part and get out fast. I don't think the S&C engineer knew how to fault the boiler and they should not have taken the job. Needless to say, I will NEVER use them again.

I am sorry you were not satisfied with our service. According to the notes on your file you notified us of a F28 Fault, an Electrode Fault. No other Fault Code was reported, if it had the necessary parts would have been ordered. Our company ethos is to cause the least amount of expense to customers, wherever possible. We ordered the Electrodes for the engineer’s appointment. The engineer installed them, and the boiler fired up with no other Fault Code showing. Boilers will continue to go to a fault code if there is another part that has failed. Checks and tests were done and the boiler was left in working order. When we received a phone call from you a few hours later we were told the boiler had failed. The engineer was contacted and he explained the fan was noisy and the diverter valve slow to change over. Both parts are expensive to replace and we advised it would be cheaper for you to get a one-off call out with Valiant. Also, as the boiler is a combination, and you were without heating and hot water, Valiant would be able to resolve the problem quicker, they carry parts, we would have to visit, diagnose and then order the parts, with the current crisis this might have delayed fixing and could potentially have cost you more than using Valiant. We did not discount our invoice as we did repair the original fault. Unfortunately, as with cars, when a boiler gets old replacing one part can lead to another part failing. Again, we apologise you were not satisfied.

Routine annual service carried out on Worcester Greenstar Danesmoor 18/25 oil fired boiler. Work was done to agreed schedule and budget. Company staff arrived promptly, carried out the work in full compliance with Covid19 protocol and left the site clean and tidy. I have been using this company for many years now and have always been pleased with their cheerful prompt response when occasional faults happen.

Southgate and Culham replaced our aging oil boiler with a Worcester Bosch unit and did an excellent job from start to finish. Throughout the two day job they were friendly, efficient and courteous. We decided to redesign our utility room where the new boiler was going to go and Kevin was really helpful with pipework routing to make the new room easy to tile and paint, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely use again for servicing and future works. Would recommend highly.

Our hot water expansion tank sprung a leak overnight and soaked everything including the carpeted area next to the hot water cylinder. Contacted Southgate & Culham and explained the problem and how urgently we needed it fixed. They came out that day and not only fixed the problem, but identified previous plumbing mistakes that caused the expansion tank problem. Everything sorted by the end of the day...…Cannot thank them enough.

What an amazing couple - Kevin on the installation, Nikki (mostly) in the office and on occasion coming over to lend a hand, and tutor me in the finer points of my smart system. I had a complete new heating system put into a newly connected gas supply in a big older house. The house threw up a few unexpected challenges and Kevin - a true problem solver and lateral thinker - came up with some very clever solutions to deal with them. Kevin also deftly minimised the disruption, kept me in hot water throughout through clever phasing of the work and finished ahead of time. Above all they are both really lovely people with very high standards -considerate, thoughtful and knowledgeable. When I found myself in an unrelated crisis, they were quick with suggestions and offers of help. I found Southgate & Culham through the Which? trusted traders site, and I could not have found anyone anywhere that I could trust more. I am a single older woman and a long-standing member of Which? and am very grateful to have been able to rely upon their expertise, their local knowledge, and their kindness. I cannot recommend them highly enough. And I love my new heating system, which delivers everything Kevin said it would. My dad would approve of him.

Having found Southgate and Culham's name on the Weissman website I left a message on their answering machine. I was rung back within 30 minutes and was able to arrange a boiler service within 2 weeks. I had been somewhat concerned due to the Covid situation but the service was carried to our complete satisfaction and in a safe manner. In view of this, we went ahead with a toilet fitting which we had been putting of for nearly 12 months. Again the work was carried out in a friendly, competent manner and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Had way too many quotes from various suppliers (my mistake!) offering different solutions for replacement of our leaking boiler. Didn't think an external boiler would be within our budget and was told by one supplier it couldn't be done! Southgate and Culham explained everything in plain English and came across as honest and trustworthy people so they got the job. Great work, a tidy installation and we've never been warmer, plus the hot water tank finally fills up properly and has not run out once, so we are well pleased. Definitely recommend and they will be getting the service work too.

Really poor job, twice

I've used S&C for years but their recent performance has been very disappointing. Replaced a shower valve and left the new unit stuck on with silicone sealant - explanation was that " all showers are 155mm spacing" This is untrue as I found many online. Fixed this "at their expense" after initially arguing it was the best that could be done. Replaced a hot water cylinder - left us overnight with no hot water (immersion set to minimum) and shower not connected as this "would take too long" ( were going to two breakdowns) plus a leaking joint on the hot water pipe. Returned the next day and left us with no hot water from the central heating. This they claimed was an existing fault, even though it was working fine before. A separate electrician called on Monday and fixed the issue as a defective "quick connector" had been used. Earth bonding had been removed whilst replacing stop cock. S&C claim this was already disconnected even though I have a photo taken before their work. It is dangerous to not connect earth bonding. This repaired by the electrician on Monday. Have used them for 4 boiler replacements plus other work in the past, but having to argue to get a resolution is draining. A simple apology and fixing the issue would be fine - not excuses like "it was already like that" "it's the best that could be done as no smaller valves exist" "it will take too long to connect the shower" The faults were fixed at their expense, which is only to be expected and not a virtue.

Hi, After calling the company that installed my boiler with no response for two days. I found this company, Southgate & Culham Ltd from the Worcester-Bosch website. My central heating system broke down and I call the company and Nikki who answered the call was nice and friendly. The engineer would be with you, within an hour. When I told her what the problem was I had with the system, she knew what the fault was and check that the engineer had the part on board before sending him out, which was great, because the the engineer was able to change the broken part and resolved the problem satisfactorily. He was very helpful and the job was done in 30 minutes. Great work well done. Yes I would recommend this company. Mr H Sutherland

Fitting new Worcester/bosch oil fired boiler. Fitting was completed on time and in budget. I would thoroughly recommend Southgate & Cullum. The fitters were incredibly efficient and the job was done with little disruption and completed in a day. The old boiler and pipework taken away as agreed. After sales service very good and boiler has been running perfectly. I would highly recommend for future projects.

I used S&C after they very honestly advised me I don't need a boiler replacement, it just needed a service. Kevin came and serviced it during lockdown and was brilliant with covid precautions, got the job done and answered questions we had. Superb service from beginning to end. Been using Southgate & Culham for four years, having been recommended to us by the previous owners of our house, who had used them for boiler servicing for at least eight years previously. We contacted them mid-December as an emergency because our previous boiler, installed when the house was built, had failed completely, resulting in the need for a replacement. They had the new boiler installed before Christmas. Very conscientious and experienced team. Turned up when promised, meticulously tidy and kept the work areas spotless throughout the job. Boiler works well and the house has never been so warm!
