Disappointing experience and a waste of time

Pure Water People’s salesman explained that a water softener would be fitted at our stopcock under the stairs in the middle of the house. This is not uncommon and “should present no problem” but a route for the drain would need to be found, and also the outside tap is normally not softened and reconfiguring pipe work to achieve this was usually sorted out on the installation day by the engineer and “rarely charged as extra”. I explained in detail about the extension to the house and we concluded that a new cold water pipe from under the stairs to the outside wall of the utility room (ex garage) might actually be easier. After this, we were quoted the price, paid the deposit and agreed an installation date. We were told a survey might be done in advance to establish the pipe routing. This happened and was when the whole thing started to fall apart. The surveyor intimated that all Pure Water People were interested in was simple water softener installations and the additional pipework was not profitable, but he would submit his report and leave it to the office. After waiting several days the office called and said “there was a lot of extra work” so wanted to cancel the installation date. We said no just give us the price so we can decide and keep the installation date. The next day someone senior called, apologised for not providing a price, but still couldn’t, and effectively agreed that profit was their driving force. We cancelled. Very disappointing.

This is not a review of our products or services, and is our first disappointing review in nearly 1700 here on Which. We very rarely walk away from business and we did not want to walk away from yours. Our engineer was at your home to install our entry level water softener under your kitchen sink, he was not there to re-plumb your home, replace pipework, lift floorboards, and at your request create three separate hard water taps inside and out. This was far from a standard installation - when we explained this would naturally incur extra costs, extra manpower and offered you a different installation date - you gave us an ultimatum to install on the date arranged only, and it was your decision to cancel the contract with us. We could not give you a price for the extra work because we could not work to your timeframes - profit had nothing to do with it, although most people would want to do business with a company that had reasonable profit, could pay its staff and bills, and whose warranties were worth the paper that they were written on. We undertake all manner of complicated installations here at PWP - we take on the work that others shy away from. We are extremely proud of our reviews here on Which and on other sites, and we love our customers, we genuinely do, and we work hard to achieve excellence in all areas of our business, but we accept that we cannot make everyone happy all of the time and that 99.9% of the time we really do get it right!

From start to finish Pure Water People were a pleasure to deal with. No pushy sales pitch and the fact they didn't recommend the most expensive option as it didn't suit our needs as well as others was reassuring. Communication from the office was always pleasant friendly and professional. Lee carried out the installation today and from start to finish was an asset to PWP. Not only was the installation of a water softener etc very neat, tidy, when he finished, my kitchen was left as if he hadn't been there. Options for pipework routes were suggested before works carried out and this was followed by a clear and concise explanation of how the system works. Excellent company from top to bottom

Installed a replacement for old water softener

Having previously agreed a price, date and time for replacement of our old water softener. Kevin arrived on time, explained how the task would be achieved, agreeing a position for the new unit and the type of tap which would be most suitable. He carried out the work very professionally, explaining where all the valves were, and their purpose. He carried out the work neatly with as little disruption as possible, giving a lot of attention to detail, whilst keeping us informed along the way. On completion, he explained and demonstrated how to replace the salt block, when and how to determine when it needed to be replaced. We would highly recommend this installer.

Annual service water softener

I have been using this company since 2017. During that time I have only used them for an annual service to the water softener. From the initial two installers, I have had a number of service engineers and have found them all to be be pleasant, clean in appearance, courteous. and tidy in their work.

Great Service
We had a water system installed in 2002. We recently started to get a few problems and contacted Pure Water People on24/10/2004. Lewis came on 07/11/2004 and our system had seen better times. We had a new system installed on 22/11/2024 by Kevin who was very efficient and professional. Kevin braved a very cold day without complaint.

We had a drinking water system installed by the Pure Water People about 27 years ago and had it upgraded to a newer system 7 years ago. We buy our water-softening salts through them and have it serviced yearly by them. The service is always carried out quickly and efficiently, we are given a price beforehand so we know what to expect. We have lovely mineralised drinking water throughout the house.

Kevin arrived his usual cheerful self after a difficult journey with the M5 closed in Somerset. He identified the faults replaced all the faulty parts and had the water running from both taps in about an hour. He tidied up, explained the invoice and left us to ring the office to pay. As always we are very pleased with the work that Kevin has done and recommend this firm if you are looking for a water filtration system.

A fault on our water softener/filter system

A fault developed on our system that meant it was not softening water and causing our electricity to trip out. On contacting the company, they arranged for an engineer to attend at a time that was convenient for us. They phoned a couple of days before the visit to confirm it and then again on the day to say the engineer was on his way and his ETA. Kevin arrived and found that a transformer had developed a fault. Replacing it required some rerouting of wires as we had changed the built-in furniture. Kevin arranged this, did the work and left the area neat and tidy afterwards. He then reset the system so that it was working satisfactorily again. We were very happy with the service and the work done.

Kevin from the Pure Water People came out to check our water filtration system after builders moved it during some recent home renovations. He was great - very helpful, thorough and informative. He was able to assess the new system set-up and optimise the filtration set-up to work best with the new mains water feed. Really appreciated getting such good support.
