I've had an annual service contract with Smith & Byford (Total Home Solutions) for the past 3 years and have been very happy with the service that they have provided. Over the weekend, we had something of an emergency, and their response was not only quick, efficient and professional but also, sensing my distress, reassuring and kind. I feel that customer service of this quality shouldn't go without recognition and wish to record my thanks to Dee (in the office) and Jason (who carried out the repair) for the exceptionally kind and efficient response.

A boiler probem occurred overnight - no hot water AM. Called and told an engineer would be along at some point before 1730hrs. Had a call after lunch to say engineer on way he arrived a few minutes later. Checked boiler and thermostat and could find no issue but thought perhaps a power cut overnight or a malfunction on the room stat, less likely, checked everything left in full working order. Reassured there are no serious issues

When my mother's boiler broke down, the guys were round in a flash! Sadly it was old and beyond repair, but we had a shiny new one installed in a jiffy (and at an affordable price!) Mum speaks very highly of the guys and was very impressed with the work and post clean-up saying they left the place spotless afterwards! A great local company that has served my family well for many years. Special thanks to Emma for overseeing a smooth and quick resolution to our emergency call out & thank you to all the guys for looking after mum and for providing electric heaters while she was without a working boiler. Great work!

We have had a service contract with Smith and Byford for over 10 years looking after our central heating system and recently had a new boiler installed by them. Their work is exemplary, the boiler was fitted with no problem within 24 hours of being booked and the fitters Andy and Bryn were punctual, extremely tidy and courteous throughout. The service engineers and back office staff go out of their way to make everything easy and you feel valued as a customer. They are highly recommended.

I cannot rate this company highly enough. The service from the operator to the installer was exceptional. They were so flexible, so understanding. Having determined that the boiler needed to be condemned, they managed to change their schedules and install the boiler next day. My mother is 95, and they understood the urgency. The installers were professional, knowledgeable, charming. I know next to nothing about plumbing and boilers but felt I could trust this company 100%. Amazing.

I was extremely apprehensive about starting the installation on my house as it was a major install and has needed doing for a long time but due to the size of it I was holding off. Total Home Solutions were my ideal choice to do this work after receiving a few quotes. I was very impressed with how they handled everything. Total Home Solutions were very professional and did all the work to an extremely high standard. This job was very taxing as it was a big installation but they did everything superbly and there was nothing that was too much trouble. Emma, Bobbie and Dee looked after us in the office and took care of any extras that we needed doing and Andy and Bryn did all the work in the house and were polite, helpful and a pleasure to have around. Any problems that arose was treated with the utmost professionalism. I could not fault them for anything and I would recommend them to any one that wanted a major install or any work for that matter. Thank you again for all the work that you have done and for looking after us. I will be back for a replacement of my other boiler etc.

My boiler installation was a particularly challenging job due to the length and set-up of the flue, including the considerable height at which it ran. In the months between the thorough and informative survey carried out by Derek, right to the post-installation phase, I received timely and comprehensive administrative support from Emma, expertly addressing any query or concern. In my long-term experience with the company, the office staff have consistently been a considerable asset, and the job was impeccably organised. The two installers, Andy and Bryn, proved very likeable, highly capable and remarkably tidy, ensuring that the work area was left spotless at the end of each day. Their presence over the installation period never felt intrusive. I recently had a problem with the plumbing in my kitchen so I phoned Smith & Byford, Cheam to book a call out, which was booked for the next day. The plumber arrived on time and proceeded to investigate the problem. Finally discovered faulty taps. He said he would contact the office to order the parts. Within a few days I received an email with an invoice for the work which I agreed to and arranged a day and time for the fitting. This worked perfectly, the problem was solved. The whole experience went very well, the office staff were friendly and the plumber very professional and answered any questions that I asked him.

I chose this company on the recommendation of a neighbour and I wasn’t disappointed. From the first phone call to the day of boiler installation the team were really helpful. As you would expect, the worst possible time for central heating to break down, would be one of the coldest night this winter, on a weekend. Things were more difficult because there was a problem electrical with boiler. Once that was sorted out, a new part was requested and fitted. By then, we were finally warm. Even then, a new pump had to be installed. There were several difficult problems which the engineers had to sort out. Everything is now back to normal, thank goodness. I have to say that that Smith and Byford have done a great job, not just the engineers but also the office staff. They were all really helpful.

Smith and Byford have just completed a rather large job on my house on my heating system that was not working to its full capacity. Firstly, I would like to compliment the ladies in Home Solutions that originally booked my appointment, they were very polite professional and done their very best to accommodate me. The job required many visits and every time they were on time and they were a pleasure to have working in my house. The last Technician was Jason that had to visit on numerous occasions through no fault of his own but he explained what the problem was and what he was going to do to resolve the issue. He was very polite, professional and respected my house. The job is now finished and I can not thank Jason and all involved enough for their hard work. It has been an absolute pleasure.

I had the necessity to renew my heating apparatus and ordered a new combi boiler, taking advice from the THS surveyor. The two very respectful fitters arrived promptly for the 4 days allotted, removing the old and re-siting the new with minimal mess. Covering all work surfaces with dust sheets, leaving all areas clean and tidy every day. I was informed of all work to be done in advance to ensure that I was happy. Would 100% recommend this company. The work ethic is second to none.A company that takes pride in their work.

Boiler leaking badly so we contacted Smith and Byford Home Solutions quickly in the morning and they sent an engineer within half an hour. He isolated the problem to make it safe but a new part was necessary to return it to workng order. We are always reluctant to change companies. A few years ago, the service from a large gas company was dire. One of my colleagues suggested to slook at Smith and Byford. When we first used them, we asked them to sort out the central heating. A manager surveyed the system and sent us a detailed report. We asked them to do the work. For the first time in over twenty years, the heating system worked properly. We now have a service contract. The company is good at solving problems before there are problems, such as ordering parts for the next service date. We have used them for electrical work as well as for other jobs. The level of service is excellent. A few years ago, there was a problem with the boiler. It was very cold. Even though it was an evening at the weekend, someone was sent to our house and sorted the problem out. All the people who have come to our house have been technically excellent. They have all been polite, cheerful and easy to talk to. The same goes for the offfice staff. After all these years, we still sing their praises. Thank you.

I have had a service contract for a few months. Called up on the day before a bank holiday with a boiler leak. Emma in the office said she would do what she could before the bank holiday. Engineer was with me inside an hour. Very helpful and diagnosed the problem. He was hoping to get back to complete the repair that afternoon but couldn't get the part. Was back with me first morning after the bank holiday and it was fixed within the hour. I am very happy with the service. Emma couldn't have been more helpful nor could the engineer. Great service like this needs to be recognised and celebrated.

Fantastic work done to a very high standard First of all a massive thank you to the Home Solutions team, especially Emma in the office, Andy who did most of the work, the specialist boiler electrician, and Del who was the surveyor and explained to me what works would be carried out to replace the old boiler. We have used Home Solutions over the last 3-4 years as our old boiler has had lots of problems. They were very good at working out what the problems were and fixing them. However, finally we decided we needed a new boiler as our old one was 15 years old. When Andy fitted the new condensing boiler the works he carried out were very, very complicated as we live in an Edwardian house with some old pipework, including to our old water cylinder which we still use. Andy worked very thoroughly and efficiently, took his time and did not take lots of breaks (like some tradesmen we have had over the years!). He explained to me what he was doing as he went along and was very friendly. Our heating and hot water has never been so efficient. Perfect job. The job was done very thoroughly and to a very high standard, especially sorting out the old original pipework which had not been fitted properly to our old boiler and the electrical wiring. Once again a massive thank you to all involved from Home Solutions.

During the Covid lockdown in April 2020 the boiler in my flat broke down and I was without heat and hot water. I contacted Smith & Byford who arranged for an engineer to call (as an emergency due to my age) and then they arranged and installed a new boiler. The service from their office and their engineers has been amazing, they promptly answer and deal with any enquiries you my have and they are so helpful. They have since given an annual service . If you want a professional helpful service then use this firm. EICR and electrical remedial works in a home

Our church leases a property (house) to a tenant and we contracted Smith &:Byford in Sutton to undertake an electrical survey (EICR) and a fairly long list of follow-on electrical remediation works including a new fuse box. I arranged this as the church trustee with a maintenance lead role and as a former treasurer. I found Smith & Byford easy to deal with and on the ball. Clearly significant electrical works in the home are potentially disruptive, but our tenant has nothing but praise for Smith & Byford in their communications to set things up and in carrying out the work. She wrote: "I was so impressed with Smith & Byford, such professional men and cleaned up after themselves too!!!" As a church we received timely communications, clear reporting and fair pricing. Happy to recommend, and we have used Smith & Byford for electrical renewal works at the church itself with professionalism demonstrated throughout.

This is the second time I have used Smith and Byford for works in our home - last year when we needed a new stopcock installed and then again a few weeks ago when our old boiler (which was thankfully in the garage) leaked all over the floor. They really provide an exceptional level of customer service from the initial phone call (Dee), emergency call-out (Steve), discussion as to what replacement boiler would be appropriate (Dell) to the engineers (Andy and Bryn) who carried out the installation and then finally a follow-up visit (Dell) to check that I was happy with the job. The whole team are really friendly, helpful and very professional. I am absolutely delighted with my new boiler and am so glad to have found a local company who provide such an exceptional level of service from start to finish.

Old boiler given the kiss of life!

Derek (Del) was the engineer sent by Smith and Byford on Friday the 12th of February. My old Combi boiler had broken down on the Wednesday and on Thursday 11th a British Gas engineer gave it the once over and declared it needed a power flush or alternatively, I should get a new boiler. I took my brother's recommendation and phoned Smith and Bryant. Del was happy to let me talk through what had happened. I should tell your readers that I am a very nervous elderly man who panics whenever things go wrong and certainly not able to afford a new boiler installation. Del was the opposite of the British Gas engineer. He puzzled over what was wrong and systematically went through a series of examinations to discover the fault. Del went far beyond the call of duty. He was interested in solving the problem. He told me he always wants to give value for money. And then Eureka! He discovered a hot water microswitch (I think that was what it was) that had given up. He took the trouble to show me how it should work, and with magic fingers, twiddled a nodule to allow it to become properly active again. Hey presto, the heating was on again. One day before, I had had a quote from British Gas for £830 and yet Del for all his detective work and ingenuity charged me one hour's work plus VAT = £84. I was, and am so happy. that I have asked Smith and Byford to replace one non-working radiator and I shall now happily subscribe to their cover plan for repairs. Well done Del!

We used Smith & Byford 5 years ago to supply and install a new boiler and we have had great service from them since, including annual servicing. We recently had a long-standing but intermittent problem with our boiler’s thermostatic controls inherited from the previous boiler. An engineer, Simon, was able to source and replace the two units for us very quickly. We were happy a while ago to take out insurance to cover all our plumbing and electricity - it’s reassuring to know we have a reliable company to support us when we need it. All the staff we have encountered are a credit to Smith & Byford and we would recommend the company to any of our friends

The unexpected failure of a domestic power circuit prompted me to contact Smith & Byford who carry out gas boiler maintenance for us. A prompt service call identified the need for an Electrical Installation Condition inspection which was completed a few days later, the results of which were confirmed in writing and highlighted the need for remedial works. These partly related to changes in legislation since installation, while the failed power circuit required additional investigation. The installation repair work was quoted in writing beforehand, with repairs undertaken promptly and efficiently. The engineers were professional and knowledgeable, and observed pandemic rules throughout. The Cheam office administration team were excellent in keeping me informed during the repair period and in resolving any minor delays in producing paperwork. Highly recommended.

Smith & Byford have serviced our boiler for several years and this time, due to it's age, it had to be replaced with a newer model. The work was carried out by Andy and the whole process, including a power flush, was completed in a very efficient way. The pipework needed to be re-routed and the result is stunning, or, to a former engineer, as I was, 'beautiful'. Smith and Byford quoted for replacing all my radiators in my terrace house, not only were these to be replaced but also moved in location making for a more complicated job and this quote was market competitive. The workmanship was excellent and the two man team worked hard for two days to move and change all my radiators, they were friendly, accommodating, followed Covid rules, clean, tidy and went above and beyond to provide an excellent service. Usually I have found that there is always something that goes wrong with workers in the house, whether they leave a mess or damage something or don't tidy up or even don't complete the job properly. I've had all of these. With this company here none of these issues happened, in fact you would have not known that they had been in the house except for the nice new shiny radiators. Would definitely recommend!

Once again Smith and Byford have come to our rescue, from the initial enquiry with Bobbie honest advice was given by the engineers which resulted in a competitive price being given. The repair was undertaken mainly by Simon and ably assisted by Andy, Brynn and Del. All four engineers kept us advised on the work and honestly answer our questions. The standard of their work was second to none and well with in the ISO 9001 standard. Backroom work was undertaken by Emma who has master project management to a tee- we actually came under the project completion time. Just had a total rewire of our flat with new storage heaters and electric shower fitted. Both the engineers and the office staff are lovely to deal with - very professional and helpful at all times. I couldn't recommend them all highly enough - will definitely be using them again when needed. They listened to what we wanted and did an excellent job at a time that suited us. The engineers were very careful with all their work which was done to an excellent standard with minimal damage done during the rewire to the newly painted flat. We are very happy customers.

The above work was carried out very professionally, according to the agreed schedule and initial quotation. I was impressed by the professionalism displayed by all personnel involved in these installations. Communications were excellent throughout and I was provided with clear and efficient answers to all the queries I raised before, during and since the installation. Nothing has gone wrong and I have no reason to fear this unless the machinery itself would need to be reviewed under the guarantee. I have taken up a full Maintenance Contract called Total Home Solution with Smith & Byford, the cost of which is very reasonable and this is giving me peace of mind. This organisation has also installed a thermostatic shower in my bathroom and successfully carried out the conversion of the cold water tank that previously served my bathroom tabs and toilet, thereby providing equal pressure of water supply throughout the property. I look forward to any future dealings with this organisation when looking after my heating, plumbing and electrical needs under the Maintenance Contract. I am delighted with the work that has been carried out and would strongly recommend Smith & Byford, their Office as well as their Engineering personnel to anyone looking for a contractor providing the same type of work.

Smith and Byford were the first company to sort out our central heating after about thirty years. This was in spite of installing two boilers and new radiators. Following a recommendation from a friend we contacted them. They conducted a survey, pointed out a few problems and sorted them out. The estimate was reasonable. A date was agreed and the work was carried on time and within budget. For the first time in years, the house was warm. We then took out a maintenance contract and once a year they visit to service the system. If, in the meantime, there is a problem, such as a failed pump, they arrive promptly and fix it. All the people who come to the house are polite, professional and prompt. They are a credit to their company. If this all sounds a bit over the top, the fact that we paid for years for a level of service which was questionable, it is because we have never had a problem since we first contacted them. I would recommend them without hesitation.

After speaking to a friend's husband about my boiler of 20 years old (Ideal) he suggested it might be the exhaust fan as it had been really noisy and had become quiet.I purchased one online and contacted Smith&Byson to fit it, which they were happy to do. Unfortunately it wasn't the fan and with a bit of jiggling of the electrics , it looked like a bad connection on the PCB. The engineer came with a new PCB but unfortunately thought it was faulty and a new one was ordered. Then the senior engineer Del came along and noticed that something was amiss with the wiring to the PCB. After much soul searching he found that the mains wire from the boiler to the tank had been chewed by vermin. He was able to cut out the faulty part and reconnect it and now everything working. Another company would have given up and want to fit a new boiler. Thank you Del and Smith & Byford

Our boiler refused to work, so, as I have a contract with Smith & Byford, they were called and a few hours later Simon turned up to investigate. I was immediately impressed with the systematic way he carried out his initial inspection. Every pipe was felt and every component was checked. He eventually found that the cause of the problem was a defective pump, which was replaced. Following this he established that there was also a blockage in a pipe. This was removed and and an enormous amount of debris was coaxed out, thus enabling that water could flow freely through it. Overall, I was very impressed with Simon's expertise and if I am lucky, he will be available to carry out the annual service on my boiler in July 2019. Thank you Smith & Byford.

We have had a new boiler installed. We had a thorough discussion with the heating surveyor before receiving a quote. We were able to have a second visit from the surveyor to clarify the finer points about the installation. We were given ample time to think about the quote then the work was programmed for a date convenient to us. The planned visit for the chemical flush took place 14 days before the installation. The engineer was here on time on installation day. He worked in a tidy focused way all day answering our queries and explaining all we needed to understand. The surveyor also attended the job to see all was going to plan. He took swift action to organise for an electrician to come out the next day to complete the task after the original booking of the electrician fell through for medical reasons. Our home was treated with respect and the external work looks good. Everything works as it should. The follow up paperwork for the job(gas certificate, guarantee etc.) has all been received as promised and our alerting the company to one minor mistake on the final bill was quickly dealt with for us.
