True Grain Carpentry

We used True Grain for remodelling an internal doorway to our guest bedroom in our Georgian-era house. Dean took great care in taking down the old partition wall, salvaging woodwork, skirting boards and dado rails where possible, and then reusing original features to create the new door frame, window above and associated reveals. Nothing is standard with old buildings, so Dean then went massively above and beyond in sourcing dado rail profiles and making skirting boards to match the existing, blending it all in perfectly and matching the curve of the plaster and wall back to the appropriate shape. We are delighted with the work and would not hesitate to use True Grain again in future. Their professionalism, attention to detail, persistence and clear communication throughout were second to none, and Dean’s guidance on costs and advice on potential issues has been clear and invaluable.

I needed a complex roofing job on the main roof abutting my extension. All main roof tiles, battens and felt needed removing, plus two rows from the extension roof, and the lead box gutter at their intersection replaced. Then the whole roof renewed and tiles replaced. On arriving to quote, Dean looked surprisingly young to have the knowledge and experience to be owning, running, supervising and physically working himself for 5* True Grain Carpentry, but his quick understanding of what was needed and his explanation of how he would do the work was very reassuring. He later told me he was actually in his thirties and had been a Which Trusted Trader for some years. Dean's depth of knowledge of many areas of building meant he could turn his hand to anything that was needed. He was clearly proud of his company and only employed good workers alongside him. His own workmanship was meticulous and he cleaned up daily and left the job tidy. When I once commented on how nice it was to see his high standards, he modestly said "I just like things to be right". Dean was unfailingly friendly, pleasant and polite, even when problems emerged - which he dealt with professionally, taking photographs so I understood what was happening and working extra hours to keep to schedule. In this day and age of cowboy builders out to make a quick buck, Dean is just the opposite, quoting a fair price for his high professional standards and taking a real pride in his work.

Dean and his team created fitted wardrobes in our newly extended room. These optimised the limited space perfectly and are modern and stylish. Dean is courteous, helpful, professional and conscientious. He consulted us and kept us updated about progress and timings throughout the work. Dean and Ben take great pride in their work. I would highly recommend them.

I asked Dean to perform a Rolls-Royce standard of work and that is exactly what he did. Dean is a brilliant example of doing things properly. Polite, happy, professional and above all else conscientious. I recommend him without hesitation. The job: to rip out and replace a squeaky floating wooden floor to the very highest standard. A job requiring genuine skill and millimetre accuracy and it was all done in two days; I couldn't be happier.

We had a replacement flat roof including additional work to the joists, lead work, new insulation, facias, soffits, and gutters. All work was completed to a very high standard, including additional work to resolve issues that were discovered when the old roof was removed. Work was completed on budget and they even came in on a Sunday to make up lost time due to the weather. Dean and Ben were polite, punctual, and tidy, and kept us informed of the progress at every stage. They exceeded our expectations and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use their services again.

I would recommend Dean and his team without hesitation. True Grain Carpentry replaced our upstairs external window ledges. Dean went above and beyond what was asked of him, and what we expected. A true craftsman who took pride in his work. He was very polite, tidied and cleaned, and did a superb job. He stuck to his quote, even though there were more problems to solve, and there were no hidden extras. He even stayed on to complete the work when it took longer than expected. His knowledge and skills were great, and gave us full confidence in him. It's so hard to find a good tradesman, but Dean has restored our faith. He was exceptional.

It’s hard not to overstate just how good True Grain Carpentry are. Dean takes service and workmanship to another level. Thoroughly professional, polite, patient and passionate about quality, their work on our medieval barn was nothing short of spectacular. When we had our old thatched roof replaced with clay tiles they created new fascias and installed roof windows, no easy task as the roof had a characterful wane to it. Although a messy and dusty process, the disruption was kept to a minimum and their subsequent tidying and cleaning was as meticulous as their carpentry work. If only all trades people were like TGC the world would be a happier place. Thoroughly recommended.

Replaced existing staircase furniture. Work was carried out on time and as quoted. The guys turned up at the appointed time, both were friendly and approachable, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Really pleased with the finished product; it's completely transformed our hallway. Last but by no means least, their level of tidying up was of the same high standard.

From the outset, Dean was a pleasure to have building a roof onto our outbuilding; with his professionalism throughout and patience with last minute adaptions to the brief. We now have a stunning roof to enjoy looking at in our garden. We will definelty be using Dean again for further works to our property.
