He installed my combi boiler and I thought it would be nice to call him back as he might understand his own installation better. Last year 2022 I emailed and called him to check on a persistent leakage whenever it rained and he kept ignoring me. This year I emailed and called him again and all he does is to say he will contact me back. At some point, he said he wouldn't fix the leakage I still have and didn't explain to me why. And then I asked if I could at least have the annual service. He said he would contact me back. No reply or call back. The boiler installation was ok but he kind of left my wall crumbling after inserting the flue. I have been trying to repair it ever since and no builders want to do it unless I remove the whole boiler to give space for them to work. Lastly, he ignored my boiler option and brought whatever he felt like installing at the time with no much explanation. I was too tired at that point to complain further...

I contacted universal as I had an issue with the fan on my boiler which stopped the boiler from working. I was kept me up to date with time frames for ordering the part and they fixed the issue within 2 days! Jan and his colleague were polite, friendly and efficient. They also completed a service as well. I was very happy with the work and price.

I selected Universal to replace an old gas combi-boiler with a new electric system. Communication was good before the job took place and work to remove the old system and install the new one took place within the timeframe described. Jan and team were very friendly and helpful. They visited my property on 20/02/24 for the annual boiler service, their service was very disturbing and disappointing. During the service, they requested a container to drain out water from the boiler and a footstool, which I found unusual. I have never had this experience before with any previous boiler services. When asking for the invoice and service report, the technician informed me that he would do them when reaching his office. However, after nine hours, he did not contact me. I sent another text message, which was unanswered. I gave him another 12 hours to respond, but after 12 hours, when I called, he did not answer the call. I sent text messages, which were rudely answered. From this incident, I have learned a valuable lesson and have experienced firsthand the unprofessional behavior of this particular small business. From now on, I will be calling British Gas or Worcester Bosch directly instead of relying on this unreliable company for my boiler and plumbing needs. I also want other people to be aware of the potential issues with universal boilers and plumbing. It is essential to conduct thorough research and due diligence before hiring any company for these services. By sharing my experience, I hope to warn others and help prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.

We have been a member of Which Trusted Traders for many years with great reviews from many customers. In response to your comments, I would like to say that firstly the engineer was polite & professional. Your boiler is located in a small, compact cloakroom above a toilet, & our engineer requested a footstool because his ladder would not fit in the confined space and wanted to avoid standing on your toilet and potentially damaging your property, hence why requesting the container. We take every step to protect our customers' property. Lastly, we invoice after the job is completed and information has been passed to the office to prepare the invoice. You were told each time you contacted us that you would receive the invoice in due course, and it was issued within 24 hours, as all our invoices are. I am surprised that invoicing speed was such an issue, as we have never experienced this concern before.

After multiple quotes with a wide range of costs we decided to go ahead with Jan from Universal. Very clear on assessment of job and quote. We were fitted in quickly as no heating or hot water. Work was done in a day, to a very high standard and very clean. I would highly recommend and will be using for any future plumbing work.

I also had a light fixture changed by them and that was done well and neat and I’m super happy. They were very good to consult me about length and how I wanted it which I really appreciated. This is the second occasion I have needed assistance with broken central heating, very impressed. This time it was the pump that needed replacement. Jan is great, very polite and despite being fully booked up he made time to visit and diagnose the issue. Then scheduled me in at the first opportunity to fix it. Very good comunication throughout, kept me well informed, turned up on schedule and managed to source and install replacement pump resolving all issues quickly. Great service!

I wanted to reposition three radiators to correct position under windows and remove a pipe which came out after removing chimney breasts. I got Universal plum and heat recommended to me by my neighbour who did central heating work five years back and was very happy with the work done. Jan and team arrived on time on the date agreed and finished work very quickly (half a day). The whole team was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. I wouldn't use any other gas engineer/plumber from now on.

The team installed a new boiler for me. When I called them for an initial quote I found him friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all of my questions and we were able to book the installation within one week of my phone call. The team provided a professional and efficient boiler installation service, he explained everything clearly and was on hand to answer any questions I had on the day. I am really satisfied with my new boiler and the service I received and I will be using them for my annual boiler service going forward as well.

Excellent Service of New boiler supply and fitting - Highly Recommended
My boiler broke on a Monday and I had no one to fix it. I was worried about the cost and who to use. I looked on Checkatrade and found Universal engineers. Within few hour I had call from Jan and next morning came round to look at the boiler free of charge. Jan, Raj and other 2 staff came on Friday - supplied and fix my new boiler within few hours. i was very impressed of them service. Very polite, friendly and tidy workmanship. Universal have been superb from the time I contacted them until the boiler was fitted. Good communication and reasonable prices. No pushing, just sound advice on what was right for me. I am so pleased and relieved I found universal and I will be using them for all my future boiler and plumbing needs. So nice and reassuring to find such a trustworthy company. I totally recommend universal 100%. Do not hesitate to use this company. You wont be disappointed!

Jan did a few jobs for me, he fixed my boiler for just the call out charge and didn't need to add any parts when I thought it'd be a hefty bill for sure. He sorted out a radiator with new valves and he also replaced a timer on my boiler. Each job was done very quickly and at a good price, his team are very professional and kept the place clean. Jan stood out because he got back to me asap. I got none of the waffle and showing off about "being snowed under" which is typical of the majority of tradesmen these days. He took on a job I'd lost time on, (replacing the heat exchange plate on the Worcester 25Si boiler I'd been duped into purchasing several years ago) with 2 previous heating engineers not wanting to take the job on. (It is a troublesome unit), he came and fixed it that day for £325. He didn't play the 2 visits game and he was very professional and intelligent. I have had hot water running consistently since and I'm delighted. If you want a job done, ask a busy man like Jan.

Thank you Universal for urgently replacing my boiler during testing times. I must compliment Universal as they repaired my boiler previously when i was expecting them to charge for a new one . Instead they were professional and honest to be able to fix it to get a few more miles from it . Now ,this boiler packed up and during testing times, due to COVID and winter weather, I was impressed with the efficiency and urgency in getting the new boiler installed urgently as I have my elderly mother at home also. I was given a choice of recommended boilers and prices and extremely satisfied with the polite engineer who installed it and ensured his working in sterile conditions to keep all safe. He was polite and patient to test everything was working fully as well as ensuring his work areas were left clean and tidy before his departure. Great work + neat finish. Thank you.

We were in urgent need of a Power Flush, as the system was so clogged central heating wasn’t working. Universal were able to send someone out the next day which was very impressive. Engineer was careful, calm, methodical, and made sure not to leave until the system was working again - even though we’d only called them for the flush. Very reasonable price too! Impressed with this company, and will use them again!

Very quick to respond when our boiler broke down leaving us without heat of hot water. We called them first thing Monday morning and they were round before midday to take a look. The boiler is very old but they were able to do a few tests and diagnose the problem correctly first time. They then had to track down a replacement part which was not easy. I got a text in the afternoon stating they had located the part and could fit it next day, along with a quote for the parts and labour. After agreeing this I had to request a specific time as I had an early morning appointment, they were very flexible, and arrived at exactly the time agreed to fit the part. Both of the tradesmen we saw were very polite and amiable. I would recommend wholeheartedly and would use them again.

I first contacted Universal Plumbing and Heating Ltd in Hornchurch after reading the comments from Which? readers. I was very impressed with Jan who I spoke to saying that I thought my central heating system needed a chemical power flush as there was a lot of noise in the system. He arranged to visit the following day and said that maybe a power flush was not necessary but he would see when he visited. As it turned out, a power flush was required and I had the system balanced and a boiler service done as well. I was so impressed with Jan's team who carried out the work. Not only did they turn up when they said they would but the work took about three hours as predicted. They were clean and very courteous and the price I agreed with Jan was very reasonable. There was a problem with the boiler after they left (overheat light coming on and cutting out the boiler) which I put down to the age of the boiler (over 25 years old). They had to come back a couple of times and after replacing the overheat sensor (didn't solve the problem) they tried something else which was successful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and each time I spoke to Jan, he was very helpful. I can't praise Jan and his team from Universal Plumbing and Heating highly enough and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them for any plumbing or heating job, no matter how big or small. If I could give them 6 stars then I would. It's refreshing to find people who actually care.

I used this business last year to completely remove an old, discontinued boiler system and install a new megaflow system. I was exceptionally happy with the work, from Jan's advice on which boiler to choose to the neatness of the pipe working. Jan came up with an excellent and innovative solution to our issue, which we had previously been told could not be done by other plumbers. I was astounded by their level of professionalism and hard work. Jan even came back four weeks later just to see if everything was running okay and has said he has also scheduled to come back later in the year. Even my neighbours were impressed by the service that the company provided and they have said they will be using them in the future. I would recommend Universal Plumbing and Heating to anyone!
