JPS Renewable Energy Ltd, which installs and maintains solar panels and electric car charging points, has been named Which? Trusted Trader of the Month for December 2024.

They work with home and business owners across the southeast and southwest to help reduce their energy costs and impact on the environment.

We spoke to Richard Cromarty, Managing Director, to find out more about the business and the benefits of being a Which? Trusted Trader.

Outstanding feedback reflects knowledgeable and caring service

‘Our mission has always been to provide our customers with the highest quality solar panel installations and exceptional customer service,’ says Richard, who started JPS Renewable Energy in 2011 and now employs over 50 people. 

Every JPS Renewable customer begins the journey with a Design Consultant. They survey the site and the customers’ energy needs, build a tailored system, and then explain this system to the customer, including any costs and predicted savings. 

The highly-trained installation team can then install the solar panels or electric car charging points. Aftercare support is provided through a specific system (OpenSolar) to ensure staff are always on hand for any questions. 

Our judges were impressed: ‘Sounds like a really comprehensive and thoughtful customer journey, I really like that they empower their customers through knowledge.’

Another judge said: ‘In an industry where there is a lot of uncertainty this business seems to be going above and beyond to make sure that consumers are not only well informed at the start of the buying journey, but that they are supported afterwards as well.’

The effectiveness of this system is also reflected in their excellent reviews. JPS Renewables has 22 reviews on the Trusted Trader site, with an average rating of five stars. 

‘The whole thing has been very professionally handled,’ said one reviewer from Dorset, ‘You had a lot of people here which made the job go very quickly with minimum disruption. I had specific requirements which were accommodated and I couldn't be happier with how that turned out.’ 

Another happy customer from Wiltshire said: ‘From the initial on-site visit, detailed discussion of my specific requirements all the way through to installation I found JPS very friendly, approachable & receptive at all times [...]  the project was completed on time and on budget.’

Demonstrating commitment through accreditation and training

JPS Renewable Energy is a part of multiple accreditation and training schemes to ensure they continue to deliver the highest quality service.

The business itself is Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) approved. This organisation sets out high consumer protection standards for businesses working within the renewable energy space. 

In addition, their installation staff are all Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified, again demonstrating that they work to high industry standards. 

As well as providing a high level of training for their existing staff, JPS Renewables also run an apprenticeship scheme for electricians and mentoring schemes across different areas of the business. They also work closely with a local Academy to provide training. 

Supporting charities and sustainable working practices

JPS Renewable Energy has an extensive track record of charitable work, having supported the Firefighters Charity since 2022. This charity provides social, physical and mental health support to retired fighters.  

It also participates in community programs to educate people about the benefits of solar  energy. 

JPS Renewable Energy also strives for sustainable working practices. The company currently uses nine electric vehicles and recycles all damaged or removed solar panels using the PV Cycle Scheme. In the last year, they recycled 1,040kg of waste metals. 

‘In 2023, our installations saved 1,051.74 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide,’ says Richard. ‘This is equivalent to 1,052 long haul flights or keeping 500 cars off the road for a year.’
