Better Heating and Lighting Ltd is a family run firm, recognised throughout Ealing by the 'Don't D.I.Y.' logo. We offer a friendly, reliable, efficient and honest service and have 40 years of experience in domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations.
Our in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm for all things electrical ensures that any work we carry out conforms to safety regulations laid down by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (the IET) Requirements for Electrical Installations in Building BS7671 (2022).
Our electricians can also offer useful advice on your electrical wiring needs during the initial planning stages of any building and refurbishment projects. This could prevent making expensive mistakes and unnecessary disruption to put them right. I called out Better Heating and Lighting after seeing their van locally (Ealing). Michael was here within 30 minutes, and fixed the issue in an hour, was very polite friendly and offered good advice, and very reasonably priced. If you need a reliable local electrician use these guys!

I had been without electricity in my loft over Christmas and having tried checking the fuse box, was out of ideas. Mike and his son came round and immediately identified the problem, explained it to me, fixed it, and advised me on further work I could do to improve my electrics. I was struck by the pride they took in their work and the enormous knowledge they had. I was also of course delighted that they were able to solve the problem so quickly, if alarmed at the shoddy workmanship if the people who had done the initial work.

I think this is the fourth time I've used Mike (and sometimes Benjamin) over the years. Once again they turned up exactly when they said they would, completed the work quickly and to high quality (quite a long list, including replacement of some light fittings indoors and out) and left the place clean and tidy, for which they charged a fair and transparent price. Polite and friendly; happy to recommend them.

I needed a new power socket in the cellar, run from the consumer unit. Michael and Benjamin came round at the time that they said they would, did a preliminary test of the system, gave me a reasonable estimate and once I'd accepted it, completed the job rapidly. They explained what they'd done, left the area immaculate and I'd be very happy to use them again. Nice people.

This is the second time I have used Mike and his son Ben and am very pleased with the work they have completed. They disconnected an old cooker and reconnected another. Also gave advice with regard to some previous poor rewiring (done by someone else). All work carried out promptly and in good time and break down of charges explained. I would highly recommend them.

I needed a new light fitting. Michael and his son Ben arrived promptly with a new light. Because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, Michael gave me several choices via email and was very clear about costs. They fitted the new light with a dimmer switch. They also double checked my electricity as there were loose connections in the consumer unit - the latter was done for no extra charge. Michael and Ben had the light fitted and the kitchen tidy within about an hour. It was brilliant. I've very happy with their work and would recommend them 100%.

I am a professional musican who on finalising the account, appointments and reports on the 31st July in time for the deadline a few hours later found myself with no landline no internet no burglar alarm owing to an electrical fault. Having had exemplary work done by Mike Gilbert and his son Benjamin previously, I telephoned them and wondered when they could help me. Benjamin turned up within the hour. The fault was traced to the loft lighting connection. Two hours after my call, the problem was solved, everything in order and job done. Mike Gilbert came and re did the wiring and bulbs in 5 of our rooms. I was given a quote for the work which was exactly adhered to. In addition to renewing and improving the lighting in the kitchen did a complete and detailed electrical survey of the whole (oldish) house and installed a new fuse board. Michael and his son are a great team and couldn't have been more helpful without being pushy. We are very pleased with their standard of work and will certainly continue using them.

I discovered Mike and his son Benjie last year - and I'm so glad I did. They've repaired a badly installed (by someone else) smoke alarm that refused to stop beeping however thoroughly it was disconnected; installed security lighting; made sense of a mass of cabling and managed to remove most of it - you wouldn't believe how different it looks under my desk now - and fitted new wall lights, always explaining carefully what they were doing and why. They're friendly, thoughtful, expert, turn up when they say they will and are a pleasure to work with. Their commitment to doing a good job makes them very good value for money - I couldn't recommend them more highly. And if you want a heart-warming story, ask Mike how he came to be an electrician...
