James replaced a cracked stone lintel over my front window with a steel support and new lintel. He was so helpful in assessing the problem and explaining what my options were. The work was completed in good time and to an excellent standard. I am delighted with the whole job and would highly recommend James. Great communication and professional at all times.

James was recommended to us by a structural engineer to help bring two parts of our house back together. James came round to look at the job and-gave a quote quickly in writing. He turned up to do the job when he said he would. He was really considerate regarding noise and mess and was respectful of the fact he was in our home. James was also happy to answer my endless questions and provide recommendations as to next steps to take. Everything was clear and concise and at no point were we left wondering what was happening. I would not hesitate to use James and his company for further work.

James was recommended to us by an engineer we used to carry out a structural defect report on an inadequately supported chimney. James was great throughout the process and liaised with Building Control. The work was complicated by the fact we needed to move an unvented hot water cylinder in order to complete works on the chimney. James found us a certified plumber to complete this work and coordinated the work. The work was completed with minimum fuss. James was helpful throughout the whole process, easily contactable and always got back to us promptly. I'd thoroughly recommend James.

Failed to respond to requests to undertake work.
I originally approached James in March near the start of the pandemic to explore repair work to an open porch. I was impressed by his reviews. His initial reply was friendly and we agreed because of the lockdown that I would approach him again later with details of the work. On 4th May I emailed him a very detailed explanation of the work and asked him when he could come to to look at the job. I had no response to this email so phoned him again in early July asking him to call me. I had no response to that. I would have had no problem at all if he had explained he was too busy or that the work was unsuitable for him. Just ignoring me after our first friendly communication was very aggravating and should not be expected from a Which? Trusted Trader.

The trader replied (on 10/08/2020)
I am truly sorry and assure you I have not, intentionally, ignored you. Like many people during this pandemic, my time has been split between looking after loved ones, neighbours and trying to juggle work, where feasible. The construction industry has suffered with being unable to obtain supplies during and after the lockdown. I have had to advise against starting some jobs as it would be unsafe and dangerous if I could not get the materials part way through a job. As explained at the time, you were shielding and we agreed to reconvene once the restrictions were lifted and it would be safe for me to enter your home. I, genuinely, missed your email due to increased family commitments and do, sincerely, apologise. I do not recollect the phone call after the email, but I have had issues with my landline supplier transferring calls to my mobile. I am not in the habit of, nor do I like, letting people down. I hope you can appreciate that it has been an accumulation of circumstances during this period. I am still happy to call round, but if you have organised something else I fully understand.

James and his team installed a new RSJ to support and fix a crumbling chimney stack. The lower part of had been removed by a previous owner of the house and the rest had not been supported at all. They did an amazing job threading this steel into the house from outside with, literally, millimetre precision to not damage the ceiling below. Rebricking the chimney and putting the external brickwork back. We were very impressed with the work and how well they tidied up after themselves each day. We'd definitely be using them again if we had to do any more major work / repairs to the house.

James managed the building of an Orangery style extension including garden landscaping and patio. Completion of the whole job took a few months. As a builder James did some of the work himself but also managed sub-contractors where necessary including labourers, landscaper, electrician, gas fitter, plasterer, roofer and underfloor heating specialist. The work was completed to a very high standard. Duration was a little longer than expected, but worth it for the quality of the completed structure. The job came in slightly lower than the estimate as James was able to reconsider the design of a couple of elements as work progressed to achieve this. James was happy to return to complete a few small additional jobs once the main work was completed and told us to get in touch if there were any issues. Communication was good throughout. We would certainly recommend James and his team.

James completed the installation of a chimney support (NSJ) and organised for the Council building control officer to visit so the work could be signed off. He was clean, tidy, professional, no hassle. I would not hesitate to use him again for further works.

James came to dig a trial pit for our engineer. He was prompt, polite and did an excellent job. Once the pit had been inspected, they filled it in so well you could hardly tell where it had been.

We had a very difficult job to repair and reinstate a cracked stone lintel in a 300 year old house. They solved all the problems and did a cracking job.

I needed to have a difficult job done on the house, and was nervous about selecting a tradesman and what outcome I would get. James (Fix Homes) was excellent both with quality of work and level of customer care. Very happy with the job done.
