An outstanding firm. Simply superb. From my very first meeting with John Scudder I knew I could trust his firm to replace my 130 year old slate roof. The work was completed on time, and at the agreed price - which was very competitive and fair. The result - a beautiful roof - perfect in every respect - with perfect leading. From the first meeting, John was professional, highly approachable and explained in detail exactly what was required. He showed us all the necessary paperwork, including his accreditation, qualifications and insurance cover. A full written quotation followed, and we were pleased to know that the company were members of several trade organisations meaning that if there is a problem with the roof, it would be guaranteed. Their quotation was competitive and sufficiently detailed. John estimated that the work would take three weeks, a pessimistic estimate allowing for the possibility of rain during the work. From the beginning, John’s son (also called John) and Dom went above and beyond the call of duty. They arrived on time every day, kept us both informed of their daily progress and tidied up after them. The tidiness and work rate of the roofers was fantastic. From start to finish, they were professional, polite, punctual, and just got on with the job. Aided by hot weather, they finished the job well ahead of schedule. They have done a thoroughly professional job and the finished roof looks exceptional. John and Dom did an excellent job and we were very pleased with the end results. John (senior) visited us after the work was finished to make sure we were completely happy. We would not hesitate to recommend John and his team highly as they are top class roofers who are masters at their craft and are an absolute pleasure to deal with and would happily use them again.

My 80 year old Mum desperately needed a new roof. JW Scudder Ltd came highly recommended from a friend. From the first meeting, John was professional but highly approachable, explaining in detail, (without over complicating) exactly what was required. A full written quotation followed and Mum was comforted to know that the company are members of a number of trade organisations (which meant that in the unlikely event the company became insolvent and there is a problem with her roof, it would be guaranteed. They are also registered under the Government Trustmark scheme. The quotation was highly competitive given what the work entailed. In terms of the work, from Day 1, John’s son (also called John) and Dom went above and beyond the call of duty. They arrived on time each day, kept Mum informed of their daily progress (and sent me photographs at the end of each day). On at least two occasions they discovered problems which could not have been foreseen. Instead of seizing the opportunity to make more money, they did their very best to rectify the problems for the lowest possible cost, for which we were both grateful. Aided by good weather, they finished the job ahead of schedule. The bottom line is that John, John and Dom took into account my Mum’s age and vulnerability (having recently lost my Dad) and did everything in their power to ensure that, what could have been a highly stressful process, was the complete opposite. We hope they trade for many years to come.

I invited John round to inspect my two lower tiled roofs to see what condition they were in and if it was time to replace. He turned up promptly had a look and advised that the larger rear roof was totally fine and didn't need anything doing and as expected the front one was shot and needed replacing. John turned up when he said he would explained what was going to happen then they cracked on. The work itself was completed quickly with minimum disruption and when finished neat and tidy. The guys are friendly approachable and I would have no issues in recommending them to anyone. This is the second time of using them and would do so again.

I employed john and his team to fully re roof my property, from the time john first came round with his folder of accreditations and insurance and the genuine pride he displays in his work I felt that they were the team for us. they started the job on time, they worked hard and kept us informed on progression and estimated completion time. At the end of each day the guys cleared up and secured the site. The project came in on budget and under time and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Review posted late due to me thinking the wife had done it turns out I was supposed to doh !!

John and his team did an amazing job renovating the natural slate roof of our Victorian property in Blackheath. During the works John and his team kept us up to date with progress and when there were some issues during the job (a few rotten timbers) he would take a picture and send it to us with the cost to replace which was much appreciated. John also went to great lengths to source some specific ornamental ridge tiles for us from a reclamation yard in Kent (we live in a conservation area and needed to maintain the original roof features) and he found some which perfectly matched and were great value as second hand. The price he quoted for the work was exceptionally competitive and they also provide a ten year guarantee which is a great piece of mind. From our experience of dealing with John it seems he always has the client in mind and he is very conscious of not incurring unnecessary cost where possible.
