R.A.H Carpentry

Roy built some floating alcove shelves for us many years ago and we didn't hesitate to contact him again when we were looking for a built-in dining bench with storage. His craftsmanship is outstanding and we couldn't be happier with the result. Roy took our rough idea of what we wanted, offered helpful suggestions and applied great attention to detail to create something both practical and finished to a very high standard. He is prompt with communication, efficient, tidy and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Roy to anyone looking for bespoke built-in furniture with a high-quality finish.

Roy has just finished some lovely hall storage cupboards for me, plus some boxing-in of ugly pipes, and changes to a sliding door. Nothing in the house was straight but he designed and built beautiful units that overcame all the challenges. Roy was cheerful, easy to deal with, and responsive to communications. He obviously took great pride in his work, with lovely attention to detail. He arrived promptly, worked very hard, and always tidied up afterwards. His prices were very fair, and I've happily asked him to come back to do some more work.

Roy designed and made shelves to fit in a small corner of one room. From the first appointment when he came to look at the space he was prompt, thoughtful and helpful. The work was carried out to an extremely high standard and meets our needs exactly. He worked very hard for the whole of the time he was here and left his work space immaculately cleaned. We are delighted with the shelving and would thoroughly recommend him, not only for the quality of his craftmanship, but also for his very positive attitude to all aspects of the job, and his friendly personality.

Roy was easy and pleasant to work with. He helped me work out the details of the project, began the work on time, worked very hard, finished ahead of schedule, cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. And most importantly, he has done a beautiful job. I am delighted and would wholeheartedly recommend him and his work. His charges are very reasonable for the amount of work and thought involved.

Roy is a hardworking, highly talented carpenter who takes a great deal of pride in his work (and rightly so) and does an excellent job. He is a pleasure to work with, and his carpentry is of the highest standard - we could not be happier with the finished bookcases he built for us, and would recommend him wholeheartedly.

Roy has built us a very handsome library and three excellent wardrobes. And he had been a joy to have around. He works hard, fast and meticulously, always tidying up at the end of the day. He is a perfectionist. We couldn’t recommend him more highly.

Roy made several alcove cupboards and shelves for us, as well as replacing an ugly window frame. We couldn't be happier with the work he did. The whole process - from initial contact to completion - was very smooth. Roy really listened to what we wanted and found ways of getting around uneven walls and odd angles to create very beautiful units. He also offered some great advice, based on years of experience. He takes pride in his work and it shows. We're looking forward to working with him again in the new year.

Roy has done a couple of small jobs for us before (cutting down some doors and repairing a cracked stair tread) and we have always been impressed with his work and work ethic. This time we asked him to remove some poor quality built-in wardrobes and replace them with larger ones that use the space better. These new cupboards would have sliding doors, adjustable shelving and hanging rails. We agreed the quote in advance and he stuck to the quote, even though he thoughtfully added some birch ply to sections of our mdf cupboards where he knew more hard-wearing wood would be required. Roy quotes by the job, rather than by the day/hour, which we preferred. We came up with the design together with Roy, and he was sensible and helpful in his suggestions e.g. it would be much more expensive if he were to install drawers in the cupboards so he found a way to incorporate the drawers we already had. When the time came to start work, he found a way to work around our unhelpful ceiling joists, generally wonky flooring and the work was completed much earlier than he predicted! What sets him apart from a lot of traders is his work ethic. He worked at a steady pace, barely stopping for lunch. At the end of each day he was absolutely scrupulous in tidying up, mindful that we had to sleep in the rooms that he was working on. I would not hesitate to recommend Roy and we have other work that we will be asking him back to complete.

Having had a new boiler installed that was much smaller than the old one, I was left with a tangle of pipework on full display in the kitchen. Boxing this in should have been simple but clearly wouldn’t be because of the odd shape created and it was difficult to see how it was going to be anything other than aesthetically unattractive. However, Roy to the rescue, he got a problem solving and I must say he did an excellent piece of work with what he found. He was pleasant to have around and easy to chat with, always important. I can wholeheartedly recommend him and his work. Many thanks Roy.

The sliding mechanism of drawers in a kitchen unit was failing. I looked at Which Trusted Traders and Called R.A.H. Carpentry. I was concerned that it was too small a piece of work. Over the telephone Roy made arrangements for a visit a few days later and, once, on site thought a new unit would be found and, most importantly for us, he would transfer the fronts of the drawers to the new unit thus maintaining the style of the kitchen. Roy came to install the new unit and we are absolutely delighted: no more struggle with the drawers and the same style we have liked for many years. Though not planned Roy was kind enough to change the hinges of our under sink unit as they were clearly wearing out. If we need any joinery or carpentry I will not hesitate a millisecond to call Roy. We are so grateful for what he has done.

Roy created the window seat (with storage) that I'd always wanted for our bay window - beautifully designed by him with a great deal of thought and consultation along the way, skilfully made in all its details. We're delighted. Absolutely as per agreed schedule and price, including an upgrade on some of the materials. Very good communication - a fantastically responsive craftsman working with top care and attention. Would highly recommend!

Roy built a couple of beautiful bookcases for us and we were so thrilled with them that we asked him to build a large bedroom cupboard. He's made this superbly well, with so much care and attention to detail. He's flexible and talks through the job as you go in order to get the best end result. From the start he gives an accurate quote for the job, responds quickly to e-mails, begins the job on the day he says he will and sees it through to completion. He is hard working, cheerful and totally trustworthy. Roy is a great craftsman and I thoroughly recommend him.

We asked Roy to build wardrobes in a very awkward space with lots of difficult angles. He came up with a great solution. He was also brilliant to deal with - friendly, quick in replying to emails and flexible in helping us achieve what we wanted. All for a very reasonable price. Thanks Roy!

Roy took on the work to take up the ground floor boards in three rooms, insert insulation then relay new flooring and new skirtings. He gave a start date and clear cost breakdown beforehand, which he stood by. He carried out the work efficiently and accurately before finishing in good time. He was good company to work alongside and I would recommend him.

Roy provides work to an exceptionally high standard, surpassing by far our best expectations. He is polite, witty, considerate, and a very hard worker when fuelled by tea. It cannot be held against him that Birmingham City is his football team! I would recommend Roy to anyone requiring a carpentry job of any kind, as they are guaranteed work of the very highest quality. It was a pleasure to make his acquaintance.

Roy made and fitted a large bookcase/storage unit to my spec in the study. This bespoke unit is better than I could have imagined. He also made and fitted 2 other bookcase units in 2 other rooms. I'm delighted with all his work. Roy is professional, trustworthy, hard-working and reliable. His work is of a high standard & he goes the extra mile to achieve what his clients want. It's a pleasure to see such a craftsman at work. Aside from this, Roy is one of Life's good people. Roy built us a bespoke bookcase/ cupboard unit. His work was to a high standard, he was reliable, tidy and completed the work when he said he would. The build is of great quality. We are very happy with the unit and would have no hesitation in recommending him.

Roy finished his work with us today. He was a delight to have in the house, while we were working from home and with our two little children here too. His work is of the highest quality. Roy fitted 9 doors for us. He dealt with the problems that were due to me buying doors that were thinner than the originals with expertise and a smile. He kept us informed of any additional costs and advised on products to varnish the doors. Our bedroom door frame was a real pig but he came up with a solution. He tidied up each day before he left and despite the problems finished the job within the quoted timescale. Highly recommended.

Roy was a delight to be around - arrived early each morning to turn a difficult job into a master piece! He is such a perfectionist with his work on carpentry and totally dedicated to his work. Roy has now done a couple of jobs for us and I'd happily recommend him to others. He created shoe, boot and sports kit storage for me in existing boot room cupboards. The shoe storage was particularly challenging but Roy took the measurements, constructed some bits off site and then came to fit them. He has also just completed a library unit for us. In this job he has shown his true expertise, lattice work on cupboard doors so that the heat from the enclosed radiator can still circulate and lovely beading at the front of the unit. He arrives everyday when he say he will and leaves the space he's been working in clean and tidy everyday.

Roy built floor-to-ceiling bookshelves along three walls in one room, then in another room built shelves that wrap around three walls. All these shelves are extraordinarily beautiful. The first job was quite challenging as the walls curve into the ceiling so the wood had to be cut to fit the curve. He also had to cut neatly through the backing to allow access to electrical outlets and in one case had to shift an outlet in the wall to accommodate a vertical board in the shelving. But Roy clearly enjoys a challenge. He is an artist in his work and would not be satisfied with less than his best. He is always cheerful and affable – and generous: he did a few odd jobs for us, such as repairing a gate and installing a bathroom fixture, without charging us. He is, in short, ideal in every way.

Roy Hogg is a wonderful tradesman, not only does he work to a very high standard but he really thinks about what he is doing and how it can be improved. He has just completed a set of wardrobes and shelves for me and I am delighted. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

We had an urgent and difficult repair job. Roy came quickly to see the problem and worked out a solution. He came early on the day we had agreed and worked hard to complete the job, despite awful weather. We are very grateful.
