I contacted Ryan at RB Plastering & Damp-Proofing Ltd after I had a problem with a gas fire installation. The surround had detached from the wall and the company that fitted it blamed the issue on damp, I had had 3 wildly differing estimations from local damp proofing businesses ranging up to £3,500 plus £1,250 the fireplace centre wanted to charge to refit. I first contacted Ryan needing further investigation following a survey we had done to a house we were buying. He quickly visited to carry out an inspection, and supplied an in-depth, easy-to-understand evaluation of the state of the house and potential works that might need doing. As someone who hasn't the first clue about these things, I was conscious to use someone trustworthy who would provide an honest evaluation. Ryan did exactly this. He took the time to talk me through what he's found, and made fair recommendations without pressuring us to follow through with the works. On moving into the property, we asked Ryan and the team to carry out some of the more urgent work (clearing sub-floor ventilation). They were very accommodating, fitting us in at short notice, and the team were friendly, efficient and tidy! I found Ryan (RB Plastering and Damp-Proofing) via Which? Trusted Traders and asked him to undertake an inspection at my mum's house in Prestwich (Manchester), following a sale falling through due to concerns raised in a buyer's survey. It was a tricky job as I was expecting a lot to need doing, and we couldn't meet in person as the house is currently vacant and I'm helping to sort this out from Sheffield (where I live). At the time of inspection the covid stay at home order was still in effect. His inspection report was clear and his quote for undertaking damp proofing and timber repairs was competitive, hence we were happy to instruct him to undertake the repairs a month later. Ryan completed the work over 5-6 days. Because the house was vacant, Ryan sent numerous photos each day so we could see the progress. He also called to discuss any decisions that might need making around how/whether to move shelving or the fireplace etc. Ryan was professional throughout the inspection and subsequent works. We contacted RB plastering and damp proofing back in October when we purchased a house that needed a full damp course treatment. As first-time renovators we were concerned that we needed a trusted tradesman that would not only be reliable but talk us through the process to make sure we understood the do's and don'ts of damp proofing. Ryan came to take a look at the work and quoted us for the work within a week, he talked us through the process really clearly and was on hand to answer any questions, not just at the start of the project but throughout. He was clear, helpful and completely reliable, an experience we've lacked using other tradespeople. We couldn't be happier with the work he'd done and honestly don't think we'll find tradespeople as good as him and his team ever again. They came and did the work providing regular updates and putting us at ease if things of our doing unrelated to the damp proofing didn't go to plan. Ryan offered a free quote to assess what work needed doing. He advised we had condensation on an internal wall due to no vents on the front and back of the house, and that we also had a small area of rising damp on the chimney breast. The quote was clear and outlined the scope of work and how long it would take. I am very happy with the work that has been completed, all to a very high standard. Vents added to the front and back of the house, damp proofed the internal wall & chimney breast. Then re-plastered both walls. Also included a cost to have a joiner fit new skirting boards. Arrived on time everyday and answered all my questions with detailed answers. Cleaned up after the works were completed. I would highly recommend RB for any plastering/damp proof works.

Ryan originally came to quote to damp proof the downstairs of the house I had just bought and recommended I go back to my surveyors to complain, as the house clearly had damp problems not picked up by my home buyer’s report. Based on his recommendation I was able to get a chunk of the damp proofing course paid for. The work was carried out to a really high spec by Ryan and his team. They worked incredibly hard, working 13 hours one day to get the job done. Absolute grafters! My house has very uneven walls, given it was built in 1887, and Ryan and his team did the most incredible plastering job to get the walls straight. Ryan really takes the time to explain everything the job entails and to put your mind at rest. He’s always at the end of the phone too if you have any queries or concerns. Ryan and his team completed a full damp course in my living room. The work was initially delayed because of Covid-19, but once rescheduled everything was done well within the timescale and budget. The work was carried out to a high degree of professionalism and to a very high standard. We couldn't be more pleased. Everything was cleared and swept each night, keeping the mess to a minimum., not an easy feat when plaster is involved. Once the job was finished, invoices and guarantee were sent the following day. We recently moved home and our survey stated that we needed damp proofing. I've never had to do this before and was very unsure of what was involved. Ryan could not have been more helpful, clear or patient with all my queries! He visited the property before we moved in and provided a very detailed report, he then kindly took me through the report on the phone and even followed up with another visit once we moved in to the property to show us what was needed before the work started. On top of all of this Ryan's quotes were incredibly clear and easy to understand. He broke them down by work that was necessary to do and areas that we may wish to consider in the future. When he met us in the property he also suggested cheaper things that we could do in certain rooms ourselves to test if they worked before getting him to damp proof them (he suggested we invest in a dehumidifier in one room for example rather than charging us to damp proof it). Once the work started Ryan and his team could not have been more professional, thorough or hard working. As an aside - we had to get our home re-wired after it was damp proofed and I overheard the electrician mentioning to his colleague how impressed he was with the quality of plastering that Ryan and his team carried out! It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Ryan and I can not recommended him highly enough.

Ryan has just completed a full damp proof course to our kitchen and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result and impressed with the overall service. From the outset, he turned up to quote when he said he would, the quote was detailed and gave clear instruction as to what we could expect from him and what he needed us to do to prepare the space for them to start work. He was easy to get hold of and happy to answer any questions I had prior to the job starting and turned up exactly when he said he would to start the job. He quoted for 3 days but managed to get it done in 2 and at the end of the first day, gave me a full update as to where they were at and what they planned to do next. The actual finish was brilliant, the plaster work including the edging around the window frames was spot on. Even the electrical sockets were put back on without a mark on them. The kitchen was swept and mopped and all rubbish was taken away. Such a relief to walk back into the house expecting carnage given the nature of the job, only to see it neat and tidy apart from a little dust. On payment he sent a receipt and contractors guarantee immediately - no having to chase for the paperwork. I’m at the end of pretty much a full house renovation (roof, windows, electrics etc ) and out of all the contractors we’ve had, Ryan is the only one I could say was excellent. Thanks so much! We had a damp-proof membrane installed. RB Plastering gave a clear diagnosis of what was causing the damp and what needed to be done to rectify it. Their communication throughout was exceptional, written quotes, receipts, invoices and guarantee. Also good communication in terms of when they would arrive and how long the work would take.

Ryan and his team completed a damp proof course along the party wall of my house on schedule and within the price quoted. He was recommended by a good friend, who had had work done by Ryan for him and his family. I found Ryan friendly and communicative. He explained what needed to happen in lay terms, which was very helpful. He also advised me about communicating with my neighbour regarding what impact the work might have on them and about how to help the plaster dry out more quickly and how long to leave it before re-decorating. When the team arrived, Ryan showed me the materials they were using for the damp course. He kept me updated with texts and photos of the work at different stages. The handover (of work and keys) between Ryan’s team and the joiner was seamless and I was very happy with his work too. They replaced my skirting boards with good quality skirting boards which match well with the existing ones. After the work was completed Ryan sent more photos, in which I could see that they’d mopped both my living room floor and the kitchen! Furthermore, one of the neighbours mentioned that they’d seen Ryan’s team even sweeping the pavement/ road outside the house. I know people are often concerned when you’re having work done that nails or other debris may be left outside that might puncture their car tyres, so really appreciated them cleaning up outside, as I’ve just bought a house and am new to the street.

Ryan and his team were great. I bought a property recently and knew from the survey that there could be some damp around the back door. Ryan came to inspect this, took readings and gave me a comprehensive explanation of why water was penetrating through and what would be needed to rectify this. He also looked at an upstairs wall for me where I have noticed some minimal symptoms of condensation/damp. I went ahead with the downstairs work at this time. The team were punctual, polite and finished the work beautifully and to schedule. Ryan works with a joiner who came the next morning to replace the skirting boards as agreed and achieved a lovely finish.
