SGS Heating & Electrical is an independent business, based in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

From small beginnings, SGS Heating & Electrical began as one man and his van. Fresh faced and ready for the challenges of starting a new business, director Mike Fone set out on his own to deliver a heating and electrical company with customer service at the heart of everything.

Now, over 25 years later and the way we heat, light up and power our home has changed dramatically in that time. Despite all this change in 25 years, the SGS philosophy remains the same, which is to provide customers with a quality service.

SGS Heating & Electrical now employ a team of over 30 people, installing, servicing and repairing heating, plumbing and electrical services in properties across Salisbury, Wiltshire and the south west.

In 2016 a Carpentry and Building side of SGS was established using high-end, local labour.

SGS services are available in the areas of Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.

Saved us from cold showers

Having had our usual plumber - not based in the area - only promising a booking in a couple of weeks we decided we couldn't wait and face further low hot water pressure. SGS had come to provide previous quotes for Solar and HVAC we'd been impressed by their knowledge and helpfulness. I completed their form out-of-hours in the evening, got a call the next morning and a plumber was with us by the afternoon. Within an hour the issue - severe blockage in different sets of pipes - the issue was fixed. Costs were fine; certainly in line with what I was expecting.

Solar panel installation

Great service from start to finish. A detailed initial survey followed by a competitive quote. Work started within a couple of weeks of the survey and they fitted their work around other jobs that were being done at the same time. 15 solar panels, battery and inverter all fitted in a couple of days (they would have completed the job in a day had the weather not been truly atrocious!). Work finished neatly and tidily. Would definitely recommend them.

Solar PV Installation

SGS carried out the installation of our Solar PV system. They were recommended by a Yorkshireman who had SGS instal the same system for him, he was so pleased he almost broke into a smile. Even though we are about 150 miles from SGS’s area of Ops they agreed to instal for us. Throughout the project, communications with the Project & Renewables Manager were good and update communication passed both ways prior to the instal date. The team arrived early day 1 and went about their business without complaint enduring the usual poor Welsh weather gave them. Their work is very neat and looks professional – probably because they send qualified electricians with many years’ experience unlike other installers who, we find, have only done a short instal course. The instal went well with a second confirmatory check the day after it was commissioned to ensure no faults had occurred overnight. A full brief was given prior to clearing and sweep-up and departure. SGS quote was reasonable – and quality – be it labour or the equipment used. Highly recommended.

Improper Call-Out Charge

Requested a visit from an engineer to prepare an estimate to repair and reposition our gas boiler and cylinder. Estimate received same day but followed up several weeks later with an invoice for a call-out charge. SGS maintained it was a call-out visit and that their engineer had identified the issues with the boiler and quoted a repair accordingly. This was completely false, sine we told him what the Ideal boiler specialist had advised needed to be done. I told SGS to check with the engineer or the original telephone call, which they did and, "on this occasion, as a gesture of good will" they decided to withdraw the invoice but stressed that any future call-outs would be charged as £75+vat so £90.00. Although it was not a call-out, SGS are in breach of consumer protection laws by not declaring a call-out charge or the amount before they visit or even mention it on their website.
