Tincknells serves customers across Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset, Avon and south Gloucestershire. It’s already a well-known name in the South West, with a great reputation for integrity and customer service. Company director Rob Ormond and heating services manager Richard Beck both emphasise that Tincknells is a ‘modest’ company, concerned more with providing a good service than making a fuss about it. But its recent win could change all that.

Tincknell Heating Services is one wing of the long-established fuel business, Tincknell Fuels. ‘It’s a win for the industry,’ said Rob Ormond. ‘The fuel industry, which we’re part of, doesn’t always get the best press, but this is a really positive step.’
Winning the Which? Trusted trader of the year award and being elevated above the thousands of other businesses on the Which? Trusted Traders scheme means a lot to the company. But it’s adamant that this won’t change the way it works.

We had a fault with our boiler and called for urgent help. 24 hrs later we were up and running again, with the problem diagnosed and new components fitted. Andy the engineer was most helpful and very thorough in checking the usual components for problems and carried the necessary parts in his van. A first-class service.

Oil Boiler and AGA Servicing

I have used Tinknell Fuels to service my Grant oil boiler and oil burning AGA stove for about 19 years. On a couple of occasions I used other companies and so can make a clear judgement on the service provided by all. Tinknell engineers are experienced, very thorough and always do a very good job. Each appliance is broken down into many parts, cleaned thoroughly and if needed parts are replaced with a clear explanation of the reasons for doing so. You really get the impression that they have a thorough knowledge of the equipment and they readily share what they are doing and why, and provide clear advice on what is necessary to prolong the appliance’s life. In addition they leave the appliance and the area in which they have worked spotlessly clean. I cannot say the same for other engineers I have had to service my appliances. They are slip shod, do the minimum work necessary and are off before you know it. Tinknell’s are not cheap. Currently (2022) a boiler and AGA together cost about £350 incl VAT. However, for this you are assured of a very good service and thereafter an appliance that will function reliably until the next service. If something is not right and it has happened only once with an AGA burner, the engineer will return and fix it at no extra cost, as long as the problem is related to the service. Tinknells are a 5 star organisation and two of their many engineers, Andy Simpson and Mike Morgan, are a credit to their profession.

New External Boiler installation

Our old internal boiler was leaking and beyond repair. The suggestion for a replacement was a new external boiler, which we were initially unaware of as an option. However, we were happy with the proposal and upside pf internal space being freed up. The work was commenced on schedule, completed on schedule - consideration of some ongoing unrelated building work all taken into account without needing any input from myself. Very happy with the whole process and confirmation of the competence we've had from Tincknells in the past in servicing our boiler and keeping it going as long as it lasted.

Installation of new oil tank and pipework

During a routine repair of a faulty oil pump in the Oil Boiler it was spotted that there was a small oil leak in the pipe from the oil tank to the oil boiler. A subsequent visit to attempt to replace the 40year old sunken pipe buried under the garden and drive was not successful and "Plan B" was developed to resite a new tank to enable the new pipework to be more conveniently installed above ground from the tank to the boiler. Throughout the investigations and installation work, I was kept fully informed of the work to be done and the cost off this work. The engineers who carried out all the work were competent and friendly and I am delighted with the quality and tidiness of the final solution. I am also confident, having been a customer of Tincknells for many years, that any subsequent follow-up will be attended to in a timely manner.

The engineer arrived well within the times previously agreed and carried out the annual service on our oil fired boiler in an organised manner. He was happy to discuss the progress of the service in a friendly way and advised there were no problems with the boiler, such that should be no need to replace the boiler any time soon. After the boiler service was complete, the area around the boiler was cleaned up leaving no trace of the work undertaken. The service included an inspection of the oil tank and the lines between the tank and the boiler, confirming all was in order.

AGA and boiler service

We have used Tincknell's for the past twenty years to service our ancient oil-fired AGA and our oil-fired boiler. We have also had them replace a radiator and install a new oil tank. Although they quoted for a new boiler, when the old one reached the end of its life, we chose a cheaper quote from a sole trader, which was not installed to the same standards Tincknell provides. We regret that. If there is an AGA or boiler breakdown, or post-service glitch, they send someone to fix it promptly. Their engineers are friendly and knowledgeable, and work cleanly and efficiently. They arrive when scheduled and deliver to price quoted. You can speak to a real person when you telephone, not a long recorded message. The person you speak to is always helpful. This local firm delivers reliable and high quality service and a personal touch. Although their rates are not cheap, you pay for quality. They have been in the heating business since 1925 - so they ensure that their engineers know their stuff. Not a cowboy amongst them! We have only once visited the store in Wells, so cannot rate their retail services.
