Old boiler given the kiss of life!

Derek (Del) was the engineer sent by Smith and Byford on Friday the 12th of February. My old Combi boiler had broken down on the Wednesday and on Thursday 11th a British Gas engineer gave it the once over and declared it needed a power flush or alternatively, I should get a new boiler. I took my brother's recommendation and phoned Smith and Bryant. Del was happy to let me talk through what had happened. I should tell your readers that I am a very nervous elderly man who panics whenever things go wrong and certainly not able to afford a new boiler installation. Del was the opposite of the British Gas engineer. He puzzled over what was wrong and systematically went through a series of examinations to discover the fault. Del went far beyond the call of duty. He was interested in solving the problem. He told me he always wants to give value for money. And then Eureka! He discovered a hot water microswitch (I think that was what it was) that had given up. He took the trouble to show me how it should work, and with magic fingers, twiddled a nodule to allow it to become properly active again. Hey presto, the heating was on again. One day before, I had had a quote from British Gas for £830 and yet Del for all his detective work and ingenuity charged me one hour's work plus VAT = £84. I was, and am so happy. that I have asked Smith and Byford to replace one non-working radiator and I shall now happily subscribe to their cover plan for repairs. Well done Del!

We used Smith & Byford 5 years ago to supply and install a new boiler and we have had great service from them since, including annual servicing. We recently had a long-standing but intermittent problem with our boiler’s thermostatic controls inherited from the previous boiler. An engineer, Simon, was able to source and replace the two units for us very quickly. We were happy a while ago to take out insurance to cover all our plumbing and electricity - it’s reassuring to know we have a reliable company to support us when we need it. All the staff we have encountered are a credit to Smith & Byford and we would recommend the company to any of our friends

The unexpected failure of a domestic power circuit prompted me to contact Smith & Byford who carry out gas boiler maintenance for us. A prompt service call identified the need for an Electrical Installation Condition inspection which was completed a few days later, the results of which were confirmed in writing and highlighted the need for remedial works. These partly related to changes in legislation since installation, while the failed power circuit required additional investigation. The installation repair work was quoted in writing beforehand, with repairs undertaken promptly and efficiently. The engineers were professional and knowledgeable, and observed pandemic rules throughout. The Cheam office administration team were excellent in keeping me informed during the repair period and in resolving any minor delays in producing paperwork. Highly recommended.

Having had six various quotes from six different companies, Smith & Byford were by far the most courteous, knowledgeable and professional to have visited. The Surveyor was on point, discussed my requirements in great detail and left my in absolute confidence that irrespective of price, they deserved the job on the sheer competence of their field! The supporting service from the Admins/Install team was exceptional as an additional plus. Being a landlord, I have dealt with a number of services and was very impressed. Could not recommend it highly enough.

Smith & Byford have serviced our boiler for several years and this time, due to it's age, it had to be replaced with a newer model. The work was carried out by Andy and the whole process, including a power flush, was completed in a very efficient way. The pipework needed to be re-routed and the result is stunning, or, to a former engineer, as I was, 'beautiful'. I would recommend Smith & Byford to anyone who wants excellent servicing of their heating systems.

Smith and Byford quoted for replacing all my radiators in my terrace house, not only were these to be replaced but also moved in location making for a more complicated job and this quote was market competitive. The workmanship was excellent and the two man team worked hard for two days to move and change all my radiators, they were friendly, accommodating, followed Covid rules, clean, tidy and went above and beyond to provide an excellent service. Usually I have found that there is always something that goes wrong with workers in the house, whether they leave a mess or damage something or don't tidy up or even don't complete the job properly. I've had all of these. With this company here none of these issues happened, in fact you would have not known that they had been in the house except for the nice new shiny radiators. Would definitely recommend!

Once again Smith and Byford have come to our rescue, from the initial enquiry with Bobbie honest advice was given by the engineers which resulted in a competitive price being given. The repair was undertaken mainly by Simon and ably assisted by Andy, Brynn and Del. All four engineers kept us advised on the work and honestly answer our questions. The standard of their work was second to none and well with in the ISO 9001 standard. Backroom work was undertaken by Emma who has master project management to a tee- we actually came under the project completion time. We appreciated that the company used local village tradesmen and in particular Cheam Tile Centre and Graham Lee Carpets. Both of whom gave excellent support. Highly recommend Smith & Byford to everyone. Another highly satisfied client.

A power flush with some additional plumbing requirement. Enough to be able to confirm - in spades - what has been written in previous comments. From first contact with Emma (no disembodied voice on the other end of an automated system) , through the survey carried out by Derek, to the actual work done by Andy, I can only express my complete satisfaction every step of the way. Everything fully explained before and during the work. The courtesy and professionalism shown by each member of the team warrant the highest possible recommendation. I have no doubt that I shall be knocking on the door again fairly soon.

Installed sink isolation valve, installed new kitchen tap, replaced leaking isolation valve on washing machine feed pipe. The plumber did the job the day after I called. I have used him (Smith & Byford) on many occasions and I always get a great job done and on budget. Plumber is very knowledgeable and very helpful.

We have used this company for over ten years and can not fault them , we have had a couple of complicated jobs done by them , and have been delighted with the results. Having recently moved , we had the old hot water system in the new house overhauled and are again very happy with the work done. Attention to detail and plenty of advice , so that we fully understand what is being done, we find very reassuring. Special mention must go to Del , Andy and Emma who are just brilliant.
